Hey, all;

I have 2 HP 9000/800 L1000s that are both running HPUX 11.00 supporting multiple Oracle 9.X instances. These two systems are practically clones of each other - same OS level, same number/type/speed CPUs, same amount of RAM, etc, etc.

One of the servers is getting the following error periodically:

22-SEP-2003 11:29:02 * 12560
TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
TNS-00530: Protocol adapter error
HPUX Error: 233: No buffer space available
22-SEP-2003 11:29:18 * 12502
TNS-12502: TNS:listener received no CONNECT_DATA from client
22-SEP-2003 11:29:57 * 12502
TNS-12502: TNS:listener received no CONNECT_DATA from client

=================================================

The dbas here believe the line "HPUX Error: 233: No buffer space available" indicates an issue with the operating system.

There was originally a difference in the kernel. I updated the kernel on the error prone system which reduced the frequency of the errors, but the dbas are still getting them.

Other than that, any other differences actually favor the error prone system. It has more swap configured, less memory utilization, fewer Oracle instances running, etc, etc.

I am running some system diagnostics which poll the system every two minutes. Everything I can find in those diagnostics says the system is chugging away just fine - no real resource bottlenecks.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I could look for to correct this issue? I'd appreciate any hints/tips/suggestions.

Thanks for your time.
