Sorry again. Some background for your reference is that I have been trying polite and harsh words towards _them_ (remember I did not name _them_ at the very beginning) in these sorts of issues for years. The result is that _they_ became more and more reasonable in the eyes of the higher management. And now it is so tough for me to find any other jobs even though I believe that I know more and can do better than the current DBA.
So please, again, if anyone could possibly agree with my idea of doing it in files? -- I do not think "spool-select distinct" will even do it, because I only told you that the duplication-affected portion might be about 500+k rows, I did not tell you that the big table should be millions of rows altogether.
