Michael,

Goto http://tahiti.oracle.com and search for "dbms_sql" keyword. This is an Oracle supplied package to work with dynamic sql.

But before going thru this route, I would suggest to sort of debug your cold fusion code and see what is the exact sql string which gets sent to the database. Maybe some garbage is appended to it or something.
