Come on - disk is cheap nowadays, and memory can be kept to a minumum, depending on how you setup your database. Then again - that requires some knowledge...

Oracle 8.0 will not run under XP (maybe even the opposite, as quite a few system32 dll's are overwritten). Go for 8i (just as UNcertified, but at least it runs) or 9i, which is not only certified, but also the current version
