I think Tom was solving a slightly different version of the problem. Billy Verreynne has posted on pivoting and offers three different solutions in his post of "2002-03-11 22:13:08" subject line "Subject: Re: reverse pivoting". I think the pivot table approach may be cleaner for this specific case. The post may be found using google advanced search on newsgroup comp.databases.oracle.server
