I have found that it's a little bit more than difficult to avoid that. The learning curve is steep, but I agree 'one should definiately avoid hardcoded IP addresses'.

Somewhat different subject: I have heard that Oracle will provide a limited version of the 9ias, so it will be possible to run web forms (6i/9i) without having to licence the whole 9ias and then one perhaps can use portal as a menu start/single signon ...

I don't have any written reference to the above statement, but I can obtain a reference from the consultant who told me. He is on vacation, so it may take a while before I can reply.

ah well, they of course want to sell the product (no flame attempted on my part here !), but does anyone use it to anything but intranet ? (hardcoded IP addresses ! ) Other than Oracle themselves and with Java all over the place.

And now Sybrand, please give me the Read The Fine Manual stuff :-)
