How do you know it was a bad decision without knowing the OP's company's finances? How do you know that an application that services a handful of people is worth more than a DBA?

As far as bending over goes, or living on one's knees, or to view it as covering for something, it depends on how you see it, are you a) working for an endeavour that pays you, or b) working for inherently selfish highly paid suits, whom you would like to see fail.
