I certainly wouldn't expect the db-connection to be dropped as the result of executing a simple SELECT-statement. A bug would be the most likely, wouldn't it!?

What kind of pointers would that be? I simply ran the attached script in SQL*Plus Worksheet. The error is reproducable.

Unfortunately I don't have a Metalink login yet - I just applied for it though. I'll let you know if anything applies as soon as I have the chance to check Oracle's error-database.
