Using Google for the phrase "SORT EXTENT POOL" gives http://www.ixora.com.au/q+a/0101/31171404.htm as the first result, and a very appropriate result it is too.

I'd have thought that the primary use of the SGA was to store database blocks in the buffer pools but there you go.
