After I had installed gcc and got around to fix that bloody makefile (the fix can be much simpler: just add a -ldl after the libs) the installation worked fine.

One other thing:
When you install again and again and maybe even as differnent people it always pays to to an ipcs as root. Then you can see whether any semaphores or shared memory segments are still lying around. This usually prevents qracle getting up later in the installation. You can clean them out using ipcrm.
