I used Google Groups as a backup myself, when my local NNTP server no longer carries older articles and I think I may have missed a response or something.

There are quite a few good newsreaders out there. I recommend using them. Still, if you're behind a firewall with only port 80 open, Google Groups is likely the best way to go.

Interesting. Did not know that. Does not make sense though as the NNTP RFC's includes server-to-server delivery of postings... I would think that any posting on a NNTP server would be delivered to others.

FWIW, your postings on Google is reaching Africa, thus it should also reach everywhere else.
