Read below. The other way, from 7.3.4 to 8.1.7 gave also the same
problem.
Bug No. 728308
Filed 09-SEP-1998 Updated 26-APR-2000
Product Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition V7 Product Version 8.0.4
Platform Sun Solaris V2 Sparc Platform Version 2.5.1
Database Version 8.0.4 Affects Platforms Generic
Priority Minimal Loss of Service Status Q/A To Development
Base Bug N/A Fixed in Product Version 7.3.3.4
Problem statement:
DEGREE CHANGED FROM 1 TO DEFAULT WHEN IMPORTING 8.0.4 EXP. DUMP INTO ORACLE7
- 09/09/98 04:37 pm *** PROBLEM: 1. Clear description of the problem
encountered: The degree field gets changed to default when importing a
Oracle8 export file into an Oracle7 instance. 3. Indication of the
frequency and predictability of the problem Always. 5. Technical impact
on the customer. Include persistent after effects. Ct. does a lot of
imports between these different versions as they are a developer. The
workaround can be used but is not acceptable as all tables being
imported must be altered. ========================= DIAGNOSTIC ANALYSIS:
TEST A: 1) created a table DUMMY in 8.0.4 2) executed catexp7.sql as SYS 3)
verified that the degree=1 for DUMMY 4) logged into 7.3.4 instance 7) when
checking for the degree, it has been changed to DEFAULT Subsequently all
queries now use CBO, not RBO (per bug 501930). This causes performance
problems for the client. TEST B: 1) in 8.0.4 instance, export the DUMMY
table (with a degree=1). 2) drop table DUMMY; 3) import the table 4)
degree=1 for DUMMY according to dba_tables =========================
WORKAROUND: After importing into oracle7, changing the degree from DEFAULT
to 1 resolves the problem. Again, this is unacceptable to the client.
========================= RELATED BUGS: 505147, 501930
- REPRODUCIBILITY: 1. State if the problem is
reproducible; indicate where and predictability Always reproducible. 2.
List the versions in which the problem has reproduced From oracle8 to
any of 7.3.3.x, 7.3.4, 7.3.2, 7.2.3 3. List any versions in which the
problem has not reproduced From 8.0.4 to 8.0.4 =========================
TESTCASE: Not needed. Everything is reproducible. ========================
