First, I'm assuming you have the 8.0.5 Oracle client installed. You can grab the 8.0.5.10 Oracle ODBC driver from OTN-- that at least gets you closer to the Windows 2000 time frame. If it's an option, you may want to try upgrading to the 8.1.7 Oracle client and 8.1.7 Oracle ODBC driver, since that's the earliest version of the client that's still supported (may be to first version to officially support Windows 2000).

If you grab the latest ODBC driver, it should have a "test connection" option in the DSN setup screen. See whether that test will work.
