If the version 8.x software was correctly installed after the 7.3 stuff, both should be available.. Look to see if the is something called the Oracle Home Selector ( I am assuming Windows, since you did not specify) in the program menu( Normally in the 'Oracle Installation Products' program group..If so, then, prior to running the 7.3 stuff, change the default home to the correct location. If not, then perhaps the 8.x installation was done incorrectly ( or it is 8.0.x which may not have recognized the need for multiple homes).

You can check the registry under HKLM/SOFTWARE/ORACLE and see if multiple homes are included.. If Not, a reinstallation of the Oracle Client products may be needed ( 7.3 first, then 8.1.x or higher )
