Oracle, the database, is a back-end product. But it is not one to learn casually the way you have learned Access and SQL Server. It may seem the same to you but that is just due to marketing hyperbole.

If you want to learn it make sure you have a machine with a real operating system (no Win95, 98, CE, ME). Then purchase the demo pack of either 8i or 9i from http://store.oracle.com ($39.95 USD). Then purchase at least two or three good solid Oracle books published by (Osborne Oracle Press or WROX. I'd suggest O'Reilly if you had a UNIX background too but you don't). Also follow these usenet groups closely and be a regular reader at http://tahiti.oracle.com.

Finally design a project for yourself and build it in Oracle using no GUI tools.

The front-end is another matter entirely. Don't spend five minutes thinking about it until you have 6-12 months working in the back-end.
