I have successfully installed Oracle 8i client version (8.1.7.0.0) on
XP Professional machine. The only issue was the Pentium 4 bug which
made the installer not fire up or hang...which BTW is also true on
other platforms like WinNT/2000 etc. Looks like you are running into
same problem. Check Doc ID 131299.1 on Metalink.
