I'm not sure I follow - "*manual/point in time*"? My scenario can be 1) completely automated and 2) results in a complete recovery, not a point-in-time recovery. The steps involved are no more manual or automatic than a recovery with an existing controlfile - I run one sql script which is automatically generated for me by the backup controlfile to trace command, and I'm done. No transactions lost, no resetlogs, *complete* recovery.

I would get a completely recovered database, just as I asserted.

No I wouldn't. I just did it, and not once did I have to hit <ENTER>. The *only* modification I made to the output of the backup controlfile to trace command was adding the word "AUTOMATIC" to the "RECOVER DATABASE" line. But this is no different than if I had a current copy of the controlfile - I'd still have to issue a "recover automatic database" if I didn't want to be prompted for each individual archive.

:) Please, show me what else I needed to prepare. I'm happy to admit I'm wrong, but you have to prove me wrong first, not just assert ill-preparedness.
