shared memory realm error..

I added the following lines to my init.ora inorder to run a package that outputs a file on a network drive J :

UTL_FILE_DIR = *
UTIL_FILE_DIR = 'J:\' The problem is it seems that when the drive is not available and I try to log into sql*plus I get this

oracle is not available
shared meemory realm does not exist

Is there a solution for this ?
