No need to do that. I have 8.1.7.3 Enterprise Edition installed on my IBM ThinkPad 380Z with 64MB RAM, Internet Developer Suite, SQL Navigator, and a few other decent size apps. As long as I don't try to start the Apache Server at the same time IDS is open ... no problem. The secret is to make the Java Pool 64K rather than 20MB.
