Tom,
I'm in the same type of position you are. I have a College degree (not
computer related), about 10 years PC experience, and a basic understanding
of Oracle, but no real world Oracle experience or programming skills. I'm
getting pretty discouraged with what I've read here and there about the
catch 22 for newbies. My only thought has been to volunteer at a company in
exchange for the experience and a reference after a year or so.
I don't relish the thought of 8-5 M-F plus weekends and off hours as a
volunteer, but that looks like the only option. Since I am really bad at
SQL, programming theory, etc I'm very seriously dropping Oracle and going
in a different direction. I'll get the DBO or OCP for my resume, but don't
honestly expect it to be my carreer path.
