I am encountering a similar problem on a new 8.1.7 oracle install.

After attempting to connect www active server pages and installing an 8.1.6 client, I am no longer able to start the listener or instance.

I have also copied the orannms8.dll from another server and have also copied the file requested by the instance and am still unable to start the instance.

Additionally, I removed the sid using oradim and recreated the sid, that did not work.

Please help if you can,
