This month (March) the Georgia Oracle Users Group and Enterprise Information Systems/Office of Information Technology at the Georgia Inst. of Technology present two very special presentations with assistance from TUSC (http://www.tusc.com), a recognized leader in the Oracle consulting industry. The presentations will be in the College of Architecture Large Auditorium in Georgia Tech's College of Architecture located at 247 Fourth Street, Atlanta GA (see below for directions and map links) starting at 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 14th. This month's presentations are:

  1. 'Phi Beta Portal' by Rich Zapata of TUSC. Rich contributed the Portal chapter in Brad Brown's 'Oracle 9i Web Development' book.
  2. 'Online Database Block Size Rebuilds in Oracle 9i' by Kevin Loney of TUSC. Kevin is one of the top DBAs in the country and most recently the co-author of the 'Oracle 9i DBA Handbook' (with Marlene Therault). Here is a short description of Kevin's presentation:

Oracle 9i offers support for multiple database block sizes in the same tablespace. DBAs can use this feature to support rebuilding their databases to a higher database block size while the database remains online. This presentation will provide a demonstration of the steps required to increase the database block size for almost all tablespaces in an Oracle 9i environment. Topics covered include database quiescing, supporting multiple block caches, using the Oracle-managed files feature, and online object reorganization.

Don't forget to bring business cards!!! TUSC will have wonderful posters and books on CD to give away.

Directions:
Southbound on I75/85:

Proceed over interstate to Techwood Drive (red light at intersection, road closed to the left) and turn right. Stadium Construction will be on your left. Proceed to intersection of Campus Drive/Fourth Street and turn left. Follow Campus Drive/Fourth Street past the College of Architecture to the entrance to the A09 parking lot on your right (just before intersection with Atlantic Drive).
