Yes he did - heres the line that does it

oradim -new -sid mydb -pfile /here/it/is/initmydb.ora

of course the path given isn't anything like a valid path for the pfile under NT.

What i'd be interested in is the exact text of the error that occurs at

"
startup nomount pfile=/here/it/is/initmydb.ora [error]
"

and also if this is being done at the console or via terminal services.
