This is a terrible time to move into a new field. You are better off waiting until the economy picks up some. How long have you been doing development and data modelling? You really need atleast 2 good years as a developer before moving into a DBA job. Alot of training companies will lie to you and tell you can get a job as a DBA with their class. Its a lie.

With 2 good years a DBA and a DBA certification in a growing economy(who knows when that will happen again.. end of the year?) you have a pretty good shot at getting in.
