What do you mean by ... "I need to?" Because you can't.

You can, of course, enable autoextend. But depending on your operating system you will likely not be able to autoextend to wipe out your entire DASD without adding another datafile: Something you can not automate within Oracle (or at least not easily).

But then again you can also do other things in Oracle that others might strongly advise against.

Is it that horrible to look at freespace from time-to-time? I mean that is what DBAs are paid for isn't it?
