now as I look at it your last two have more than 4 characters. I'd suggest DEV and maybe GOLD.

Actually I'm tem,pted to suggest that you ask what on earth Users, as opposed to DBA/SA types are doing seeing SIDs. They should have aliases either through tnsnames or some directory mechanism.
