Index / Extents Question

If I rebuild the database indexes, will that eliminate the index table extents? Is there a simple way or tool that I can use to remove the database extents? I have tried using the Data Manager utility that ships with Oracle Enterprise and it seems to be working on tables, but it does not appear to work with indexes. Can any body out there help walk me through these issues?
