I have been working with Oracle Products for about 10 Years now and the book I see most often on the selves of my fellow developers is Title: Oracle8i The Complete Reference
Author: Kevin Loney, George Koch
Publisher: Osborne
ISBN: 0072123648
URL @ Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0072123648/qid=1008381399/sr=12-1/102-4997046-1828127

I have a copy of this on my shelf and no I do not work at amazon. Though I believe they use Oracle pretty heavily. This book will take you from crawling, to cruising, to walking and running. It has a good introduction to SQL and Oracle Database structure.
