Difference between a full scan, and a fast full scan for an INDEX

What is the difference between a Full Scan and a Fast Full Scan of an INDEX? The documentation mentions that a Full Scan can do a sort and does a single block read, where a Fast Full Scan does a multiblock read and cannot do a sort. Is that the only difference? That a Fast Full Scan is always used unless you want to sort the output?
