I have the answer!

in case anyone else present or future is interested, here it is:

The problem was that, since ldap.jar was not in my own system classpath I assumed that it would not be in the Oracle JVM.

So I had loaded both ldap.jar and jndi.jar into Oracle.

When I dropped them, the problem disappered and it now works.
