GRRR!! Import woes with Oracle 8.1.6 and Solaris 8

Hi all,

I'm very new to Oracle :( This is giving me a headache! Is there anyone out there who has any idea what's going on? Pretty please?

I have an Oracle 8.1.6 database on a Solaris 7 machine. I can export
(using exp) this database to an expdat.dmp file without a hitch. It
seems to work fine.

I can import (using imp) the contents of this expdat.dmp file to another Oracle 8.1.6 database on a Solaris 7 machine without a hitch. This also seems to work fine.

THE PROBLEM I'm getting happens when I try to use the imp tool on a Solaris 8 machine, with Oracle 8.1.6, to import the expdat.dmp file
(that I got from the Solaris 8 machine). The import doesn't give any
errors (at least, no errors that I wasn't getting before :) , but it INVARIABLY hangs at some point in the import procedure. I don't know if it's just taking its time or what. This never took very long when I used import on Solaris 7 (less than a minute).

Should I just grit my teeth and let the thing run overnight? Or is there something else going on here? Any ideas?

Any help is MUCHO appreciated.
