reports 6i: data display

hello,

i am amending a report in oracle reports 6i and have a question concerning it: the
report has 2 queries in it which are joined by a common selected column in a datalink. one of the pieces of information selected in the parent query needs to
be shown with the information from the child query but i cannot work out how to move the parent query data to be shown in the child query's repeating group.

i have tried various options (for example, summary and placeholder columns in the child's group referencing the piece of data in the parent's group), but none
of them worked - instead i got various error messages about not being able to
use these columns in the way i had.

if anyone has any suggestions as to how i can counteract the problem, i would
be grateful.
