Hi,
I got the same error when installing Oracle 8.0.5 on nt4 wks. That was the Y2K problem on that installer, but I don't know on Oracle 8i, because I never figured the same error.
Try to delete everything on the wks about Oracle, including files, registry, and the PATH entry, and then retry. Good luck.
