Fredrick, just a couple of general thoughts.

1- Your current job is of some benefit to you in that you will at least have IT industry job experience, which is a positive compared to having never held an IT job before.

2- For every Oracle DBA job there are several developer jobs, and a good developer can make as much or more than a lot of DBA jobs pay (depends on shop size, new development vs canned package support etc...). You should evaluate your skill/knowledge set and seek training/experience to fill it out.

3- Keep trying to find what you want, but do not neglect your primary source of income in the process.

You could scan the comp.databases.oracle.jobs board and see what is there paying attention to what skills/knowledge is requested most.
