HELP!

I am using oracle 8 and i have been sat a few tasks using SQL! I have been asked 2 right a few queries & I am not sure I am doing right! Please could someone point me in the right direction!

I am not sure how to add a column onto a table.
Work out the average or a group of numbers in a column.
Display in alphabetical order.
Find the highest number in a column.
Find the lowest number in a column.
How do u display in date order?
