new question about the set-up

Hello all,

                I have just installed oracle 8 so that I can start to learn to use it. Having read all the instructions regarding the installation this never appeared anywhere.

                Basically, when I start Oracle SQL*plus on my NT machine I get a log_in box that asks for User_Name, Password and Host_String. For the first two I have an input (system and manager) but for the host_string I have no idea what's required. In all the help books etc I have read there is no mention of this. I remember when I was installing I was presented with a MS_DOS prompt (again unexpected) that asked for password? I simply put 'sys'. If I fail to fill the Host_box correctly then I get "ERROR ORA-12203 TNS:unable to connect to destination"

                Any idea where I have gone wrong?
