Unfortunately, David that argument doesn't hold up. If Access is a toy, people who make a living with it are just playing at db development.

Access is used by many corporates as a front end to a wide and mixed range of db engines - because good interfaces can be provided rapidly and efficiently with it. Are they playing? No.

The uninformed may use "Access" to include Jet, of course, and Jet *is* lightweight within the whole spectrum. But there are many places where that is precisely what is needed. Jet is a great db engine in its class. Is a nutcracker a toy because it is more suitable than a sledgehammer for cracking nuts?

Daniel A. Morgan is simply covering his ignorance with arrogance. And look at his put-downs of the enquirer. Wonder what the A. stands for!

MS Access is a toy. Pretty much one step above 3x5 cards and not much better. Received on Fri Jun 08 2001 - 21:48:08 CDT
