Had you provided the actual error message it would have been helpful.

ATTENTION: Oracle Newbies ... and not so newbies.

No one charges you more money if you put ORA-##### and the actual error message into your posting. It does however make it possible for people trying to help you to do so rather than just guess.

Most likely you now have two Oracle homes. The TNSNAMES files (all of them) must be the same. If there is a SQLNET.ORA it must be the same. And the path to the new Oracle home must be in your path as set in CONTROL PANEL/SYSTEM.
