Then, if I may suggest something, how about forgetting Oracle specifically and looking at how various database vendors have addressed the needs of the marketplace for people wishing to use databases to perform economic statistical analysis. You could look at Oracle, IBM's DB/2 Universal Server, Informix, Sybase, SQL Server, and some of the second tier products.
