Jean,

For learning SQL (which is a must), I'd get a copy of Oracle 8i: The Complete Reference. For database administration, I'd get a copy of Oracle 8i DBA Handbook by Kevin Loney. Both books are on Oracle Press.

But while you are reading those, take the time to read the Oracle documentation. You can get complete (?) documentation on Technet (http://technet.oracle.com).
