I have read 'Elmasri' too. Its an OK book, 'C.J.Date: Database Systems' is better though, but in neither will you find any ORACLE syntax! These are general books that are not vendor specific. You cannot expect examples of SQL statements found there to work in a specific product! Learn theory from the books and learn how it is implemented from the vendors (Oracle) manuals.
