that would depend on which version of oracle is in use. in 8.1.7, one can set a number of options for user management similar to what one would do at the OS level, whichi includes password expiration. if i recall correctly, the section on "user management" in the DBA guide discusses the options available.

prior to 8i, one has to write code to do the same thing, or use OS features.
