Jeff,
Forget it!! About one month ago I downloaded Personal Oracle8i (8.1.6) from
their web site.
When trying to install it on my Windows ME computer I had exactly the same
problem; the Universal Installer complains that it can't locate the archive
files to install from, although the locations shown in the dialog box are
correct. Yesterday I made a phone call to Oracle Netherlands for getting
answers to this problem. They told me that Oracle8(i) isn't certified for
Windows ME and there are no plans to have it certified either. I guess they
consider ME as a passed station or just a waist of time (and I agree with
that).
So, if you want to run Oracle8 you have to go back to Windows 9.x or download the version for Windows NB/2000.
Regards,
Robert.
