Don't know, havn't used it. Is your instance up? Have you put your SID in the Registry? Is your listener running - check the Services.

Yeah, it needs to be separate from your main Oracle Home

That's about it. SQL*Plus for Windows is suprisingly similar to the console version. Get SQL Navigator, or Toad -both by Quest
