I suspect that your problem is related to a JRE bug related to the Pentium 4
processor. I recently installed 8.1.6 on a Del 8100 1.5 Ghz CPU and
encountered this bug. There is a published work-around at Metal-Link. There
was also a reference to this problem in this newsgroup although I cannot
find it today. If you do not have Metal-Link, try looking in
groups.google.com using "Oracle Installer Windows 2000" as a search
sequence. Look for a reply dated 2001-01-23 07:20:13 PST.
