tnsnames - alias ends in a period

I am running Win 95 oracle 8.16 client and connecting to NT Oracle 8.16 Server
I used the Net8 Configuration Assisstant to create tnsnames.ora. I am unable to connect..I get the '...could not resolve service name' error message.

I noticed that the alias in tnsnames.ora file has a period at the end
(alias.name.) see below

I was told that the alias is from my Domain and that my pc's domain may not be set up correctly ?

note: I am able to ping the server

eg.
alias.name.=
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 11.11.11.11)(PORT = 1521))
)
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = db.pc.c.com)

)
)

any help appreciated

thanks
hani anton
