A Metalink account (http://metalink.oracle.com) requires a CSI which you get when you pay for a support contract. Like I said, a quick search found that there were at least 3 bugs noted for your problem. I did not dig too much further to found out more about the bugs. Sorry. There may or may not be a patch which fixes the bug. Which version of Oracle 8i? If you are using 8.1.5 or 8.1.6, then an upgrade to a higher version (8.1.7) may fix your problem, or it may not.
