Hi. I'm new to Oracle as well, and am coming from a SQL Server background too. Here are some really good resources that I've found helpful. However - I'd like to pass on a piece of advice that Howard gave to me: dont try to compare/transfer your SQL Server knowledge to Oracle. It's a completely different beast.

  1. http://technet.oracle.com/docs/products/oracle8i/doc_index.htm - I recommend the Concepts guide and the 8i Administrators Guide. These answered a lot of my questions surrounding the architecture, security, etc. I think these are the best place to start.
  2. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/SQL/Technote/oracle.asp and http://www.bristle.com/Tips/SQL.htm (these give a comparison)
  3. http://govt.oracle.com/~tkyte/ -- good developer site. 4 http://www.uaex.edu/srea/

good luck
