retrieve nls_lang out of db ?

Hello,

sorry, but I didn't find an answer to this question anywhere ...

Is it possible to get the ACTUAL setting for the used characterset of a client ?
What I mean, if I set the NLS_LANG to some proer value, and use sqlplus, can I retrieve the value for NLS_LANG out of the database ?

With nls_database_parameters, you only get the database characterset, not the actually used by the client...
