Point-in-time tablespace recovery means that you can recovery a single TABLESPACE to a certain point in time. You can recover the whole DATABASE to a point in time in both versions.

For instance, you could recovery your dataload tablespace to ten minutes ago, just before you accidentally ran that giant truncate script. Since the rest of the database in still functional, you could take that tablespace offline and recover it while the rest of the database is online.
